Billionaire – Travis McCoy ft. Bruno Mars (2010)

I couldn’t help publishing this great success in my blog. And really worth, because Billionaire sold 3 million digital copies to July 2011. For Bruno Mars, this was his third three-million success.

The lyrics were inspired in a trip Bruno Mars made to London. His record label gave him £240 for spending in 11 days, which proved to be not enough. So he thought… “What am I going to do here! I wanna be a billionaire, so freakin’ bad… “. When he showed it to Travis, he thought… “OK we’re in the wake of a recession… wouldn’t this be a superficial lyrics?” Finally they didn’t care much and recorded.

If you analyze the music, you’ll find it’s the same musical structure as Sublime’s success Santeria.

What’s up? – 4NonBlondes (1993)

This amazing song reached the peak in 1993, and gave a lot of popularity to 4NonBlondes, rock band active between 1989 and 1994. In fact, the only song that gave certain level of fame to this band was this.

It’s worth and a pity to mention that, soon after Linda Perry (the vocalist and guitarist, and main member of the group) left the band, this one dismembered soon.

Thanks for the big lesson, Talia!

A couple of weeks ago, I heard the terrible notice of Talia Castellano’s death. She, a 13 year-old girl, gave so many incredible make-up tricks through Youtube videos she uploaded for female cancer patients. She suffered preleukemia and neuroblastoma.

One of her marvelous videos below. She gave us a GREAT LIFE LESSON.

You can follow her Facebook fanpage here.

The Way – Fastball (1998)

The American alternative rock Fastball released this single in February 1998. It peaked Billboard Modern Rock Tracks in April that year and remained for seven weeks.

The song was voted by VH1 as one of the 100 Greatest Songs of the 1990s, ranking at number 94.

The band took the idea for the song after knowing about the disappearance of an older married couple, Lela and Raymond Howard, who left home in June 1997 to attend the Pioneer Day festival at nearby Temple, Texas despite Lela’s Alzheimers and Raymond having recently brain surgery. They were found two weeks later, dead, at the bottom of a ravine near Hot Springs, Arkansas, hundreds of miles away from their intended route.

Again – Lenny Kravitz (2000)

Dear friends, so sorry. Here I come with news. I have been in very hard days at work.

Here I leave you a very melodic theme, a rock ballad from Lenny Kravitz, Again. Released September 14th, 2000. It won Kravitz a Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance in 2001.

Cory Monteith,… here we go again.. with you :(

It’s 04:30 pm today and I hadn’t see one sole chapter of Glee since more than one year ago. I was so fascinated with the musical quality of the TV series.

Now I find in my local newspaper website (El Comercio) the Breaking News… Cory Monteith (Finn Hudson in Glee) was found dead yesterday afternoon in Pacific Rim Hotel in Canada. How could that be? That amazing rising star such as Lea Michele; extraordinary singer and actor whose talent I admired so much the recent years in the TV series.

Now it results that Cory was in rehab from drug addictions. I didn’t know that but reminds me the tragic stories of Marilyn Monroe, Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse, salsa singer Hector Lavoe (who was infected with AIDS using a syringe for injecting heroin) and the magnificent Red Hot Chili Peppers 1980’s guitarist Hillel Slovak. So story repeats with him. Here we go again.

Is it that life is so grievous for artists that they easily fall in these horrendous addictions? What did Cory didn’t have? What could he complain for? Probably fame came to early for him? Wasn’t he mature enough?

Lea Michele, spectacular actress and his girlfriend is despaired.

Some of the most well-known song performances of Cory below.

En el Muelle de San Blas – Maná (1998)

Song in Spanish from Mexican group Maná (English: On the wharf of San Blas). This is the fourth radio single and eighth track from Mana’s fifth album Sueños Liquidos. It reached number 18 on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks.

The song was inspired by a lady in Nayarit – Mexico, called Rebeca Mendez Jimenez. She awaited her fiancé to come back (he had gone away in a fishing trip). It was said she died in a storm, but his body was never found. She waited for him for 41 years, dressed in white, for a wedding. She died last year. Sad story, isn’t it?

Wishing I Was There – Natalie Imbruglia (1998)

One of my biggest musical regrets is that I missed being able to experience the music of many great Cuban artists during some of their prime years, due solely to politics. One of those artists is Chucho Valdés. However, even though we’ll never get to really hear what Irakere was like in their prime, we can be thankful that Chucho is still very active at 71 and creating great music. His latest album, Border-Free(with a group that he calls The…
